Terms and Conditions – Blair Wm Hankin Ltd

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern all services provided by Blair Wm Hankin Ltd (“we”, “us”, or “our”) to the client (“you”, “your”, or “the customer”).
By engaging our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Services Provided
1.1. We provide Electrical Equipment Testing (EET) – also known as Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (ITEE) or formerly Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) – and general handyman services, including electrical testing, repairs, installations, maintenance, and property improvement tasks.
1.2. All work is carried out with reasonable care, skill, and in accordance with current UK standards and safety regulations.
1.3. We reserve the right to refuse or discontinue any service that is unsafe, unsuitable, or beyond the scope of our qualifications or insurance coverage.

2. Quotations and Pricing
2.1. All quotations are valid for 30 days unless otherwise stated in writing.
2.2. Any additional work requested or required after inspection will be subject to a revised quotation or additional charges.
2.3. Parking, congestion, toll, or access fees may be added to your final invoice where applicable.
2.4. Prices quoted are fixed unless otherwise agreed in writing prior to the start of work.

3. Bookings and Cancellations
3.1. Bookings must be confirmed in writing (email or text message).
3.2. A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required for cancellations or rescheduling.
3.3. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice may incur a call-out charge or cancellation fee.
3.4. We reserve the right to postpone or cancel appointments due to unforeseen circumstances such as illness, equipment failure, adverse weather, or unsafe working conditions.
3.5. We will always endeavour to notify you as soon as possible in such cases and reschedule promptly.

4. Access and Site Conditions
4.1. You must provide safe, unobstructed access to the property and all areas where work is to be carried out.
4.2. Electricity and water supplies must be available as required for the work.
4.3. We are not responsible for delays, additional costs, or incomplete work caused by inaccessible areas, hazardous conditions, or lack of required utilities.
4.4. Any additional time or costs incurred as a result of these conditions may be chargeable.

5. Payment Terms
5.1. Payment is due within 7 days of completion of the work unless otherwise agreed in writing.
5.2. We accept payment by cash or bank transfer only.
5.3. Commercial clients may agree alternative payment terms in writing before work begins.
5.4. Late payments may incur interest and administrative fees under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998.
5.5. Certificates, reports, or documentation may be withheld until full payment is received.

6. Certificates of Electrical Equipment Testing
6.1. Certificates of Electrical Equipment Testing will be issued upon successful completion of testing and full payment of the invoice.
6.2. Failed items will be clearly identified and labelled. It is the client’s responsibility to remove, repair, or replace failed appliances before re-use.
6.3. Retesting of repaired items can be arranged at standard rates.

7. Liability and Warranty
7.1. We hold full Public Liability Insurance.
7.2. We accept no liability for:
Pre-existing faults or damage;
Hidden or inaccessible defects;
Damage caused by misuse, neglect, or interference by others.
7.3. Handyman repairs or installations are guaranteed for 30 days unless otherwise stated in writing.
7.4. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the value of the service provided.
7.5. We are not liable for any indirect, consequential, or financial losses (including loss of profit, income, or business).

8. Health and Safety
8.1. We comply with all relevant UK Health and Safety legislation.
8.2. You must inform us in advance of any hazards, asbestos, restricted access, or health risks on site.
8.3. We reserve the right to stop work immediately if conditions are deemed unsafe.
8.4. Any delay or cost arising from unsafe conditions may be chargeable.

9. Customer Responsibilities
9.1. You are responsible for ensuring that the property is prepared and accessible for work to commence.
9.2. You must not reconnect or use any appliance that has failed an electrical equipment test until it has been repaired and retested.
9.3. You are responsible for obtaining any necessary permissions, such as landlord consent or building access.
9.4. You agree to provide accurate information about your property and equipment.

10. Complaints
10.1. We aim to resolve all complaints promptly, fairly, and professionally.
10.2. Complaints must be made in writing within 7 days of the work being completed.
10.3. We will acknowledge and respond to all written complaints within a reasonable timeframe.
10.4. If a resolution cannot be reached directly, you may seek independent advice through an appropriate trade body or ombudsman service.

11. Data Protection
11.1. We comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and all applicable data protection laws.
11.2. We collect and store personal data only as necessary to provide our services and maintain records.
